Gift Ideas for Steve

It's always a tough problem: trying to find a gift for someone that they'll like, especially if you don't see them often. So! In order to help people find stuff that I'd like, I've put together this list. Feel free to ask me if I have something already; avoiding duplicates is better than ruining surprise.

T-Shirts

I wear t-shirts; lots of them. Mostly black shirts with a nifty design, saying, or piece of art work printed on it. Over the years, I've collected a few from Thinkgeek, CopyLeft.net and other such places. I'm always looking for shirts with art on them, mainly as I love supporting artists and showing off their art. Some of my more favorite artists: MC Escher, Chris Van Allsburg, band shirts of any of the bands I like, various comics including: Something Positive, Diesel Sweeties, explodingdog.

Toys

I always enjoy tech toys. Unfortionatly, they tend to be pricy and as such, don't make such great gifts. Thinkgeek generally has such toys (and by toys, I really mean gadgets).

Media

Music

Here're a few CDs and artists that I've recently discovered and said, "dude, they're so cool, I should get their CD" or some such equivalent.

Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players
an 8-year-old drummer, her dad on vocals and keyboards, and mom on slide projector: these guys are Hard Core™.
Tin Smith
celtic tastyness that's pro'ly very hard to find.
Other music
I like lots of music. Generally any group that's not country or hard-core rap with talent (read: not most Pop) I will enjoy. More explicitly, I like good rock (R.E.M., Jefferson Airplane, Radiohead, Jellyfish, Kula Shaker, Queen, The Who, VAST, Electric Light Orchestra, Guster, Moxy Früvous, Pink Floyd), electronic music (Orbital, Delerium, Underworld, Aphex Twin, Björk, Air, Faithless, Banco de Gaia), triphop (Mogwai, Hooverphonic, Portishead, Unkle, Stereolab, Molasses, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Exhaust, Lo-Fidelity Allstars). All these groups are examples of stuff I listen to; it is not a closed set of all I will like.

Books

Growing Artificial Societies
Other books
I'm a big fan of cyberpunk (Gibson, Stephenson, etc.), classic sci-fi (Asimov, Clarke, Herbert, etc.), and wacky stuff by Douglass Adams and Terry Pratchett. Granted I've a bunch of their more popular works, I generally don't have more obscure stuff.

Other stuff:

This is a list that lives on my PalmOS device of stuff i should get/find/research. It's not the most clear, but it's good if you can't find anything else. It tends to be either books or music, but a search engine could certainly help you figure out what it is.
